Welcome to Grow-Sun

We design and manufacture our own line of LED High Intensity Grow Lights. Not too many years ago LED grow lights were still in their infancy and everything on the market was over hyped junk. Then about a year ago we took a second look and decided the LED market had grown up enough to support a good LED grow light design.

Before designing our own grow lights we did a lot of market research – we bought and tested and then disassembled several competitor’s lights including the UFO hydroponics grow light. But we also looked at HID lighting like Hydrofarm and Sun Systems Lighting Kits.

And what we discovered inside competitor’s LED lights was shocking!

First, you need to realize that we only bought and looked at lights in our range of the market. And our light is designed to grow a single plant or multiple small plant in a 2′ X 2′ space. There are large commercial systems on the market that cost $2000 and up and I’m sure that most of these are quality products.

All of the LED grow lights we bought for less than $100 were junk, no exception. They were nothing more than strings of common LEDs with series resistors and in most cases the resistors consumed more than 20% of the power drawn by the light. I did not try them but I suspect that none of these lights would keep even a low light African Violet alive in a low light room.

What’s even more shocking is most lights we bought in the $100 – $600 range were no better! They were just larger versions of the same designs!

Two exceptions to this are UFO hydroponics grow light and Kessil LED grow light. These two are actually decent products. I won’t mention the junk models because mentioning their name does nothing but promote their brand name.

But what about HID Grow Lights?

Both of the HID lights we tested (Hydrofarm and Sun Systems) are quality products and the lights deliver exactly what they advertise. And if you plan to grow plants in a fairly large indoor space I would recommend either of them. Just remember that with HID lighting your plants need to stay at least 2′ from the light and you need to provide lots of ventilation. You really need to add a exhaust fan kit to the light to draw the excess heat outside. But if you plan on converting a closet or cabinet into a grow room  or you plan on purchasing one of the grow tents that are for sale on-line, either of these lights will turn the small space into a oven.

What about Your Product?

Our Grow-Sun high intensity LED grow lights are designed for the small scale grower, someone who wants to grow tomato plants, peppers or orchids in a small indoor space.

Tomato plants inside the cabinet. The light gets dimmer twords the bottom because the doors are open and the light is escaping out the front. Once the doors are closed the light really brightens up from top to bottom.

Our Grow-Sun high intensity LED grow lights are also designed for starting seedlings for outdoor gardens. Because our lights run very cool you can place the light just inches from your seedlings with no risk of burning your plants.

We don’t claim to compete with the big guys and we don’t claim to be better than a 300 Watt HID Grow Light. We only claim to do what we do well!

  1. tom if you are a grower, no wonder these crack heads have invaded you rplace 2x’s pal…….please don’t take this as me being critical of what you do…….but if i was those crack heads, after looking done the muzzle of a 45acp. i woud being running out the door, straight to rehad !!!!! lol

  2. Actually I’m not a grower. Growing pot is not legal in Alabama and marketing a grow light would draw way too much attention to a grower in this state. I designed this light because I have wanted to design a LED grow light for a long time and it seems that that the technology is finally coming together. I also design and we manufacture & sell other products. You can see a list on my http://stir-plate.com/products.htm page.

I went ahead and built the grow cabinet that’s on my web site partly to show off the new design and partly to grow tomatos and peppers indoors. Sure, I can grow both outdoors, but not this coming winter!

And BTW – I’m probably one of the few of my generation who will admit that I smoked once and I probably still would if it were legal. But that was over 30 years ago. My friend still smokes and he has no issue with me not smoking any more than I have with him smoking. I drink a beer every once in a while and I see little difference between the two drugs other than excessive drinking will kill you. I doubt if smoking pot will kill my friend.

And the local police are welcome by my house and shop anytime, just knock first. I also own a couple of Model 1911 type 45 ACPs……..

  5. I am in Spain and have a licence to grow 3 plants for personal medical use. I grow outside during the summer but would be interested in testing and logging growth indoors. If you have a unit for me to test please get in touch, I will update you on a regular basis with my findings.

  6. It’s a pity you don’t have a donate button! I’d certainly donate to this fantastic blog! I guess for now i’ll settle for book-marking and adding your
RSS feed to my Google account. I look forward to fresh updates
and will talk about this blog with my Facebook group.
    Talk soon!
Greetings from Florida! I’m bored at work so I decided to browse your site on my iphone during lunch break. I love the information you present here and can’t wait
to take a look when I get home. I’m surprised at how fast your blog loaded on my phone .. I’m not
even using WIFI, just 3G .. Anyways, fantastic site!

  7. I would also like to experiment with this new technology. I am interested in LED lighting for growing vs. using hot, energy hungry HID. If you could send me a sample of the finished product I would be more than happy to report my feedback to you regularly.
